If you love your parks and are looking for a meaningful and substantive way to make a positive difference, come on out and volunteer with the Friends of Strawberry Hill and the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department! On the second Saturday of every month, we enhance the habitat on Strawberry Hill in Golden Gate Park. We remove invasive weeds and put in plant species that Swallowtails and other butterflies need to thrive.
This is an ongoing program – we’re looking for both occasional volunteers and those who would like to be involved on a regular basis. To sign-up for this volunteer opportunity, please email recparkvolunteer@sfgov.org by the Wednesday prior to the workday.
All instruction and needed tools are provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Dress in layers, and bring a bottle of water. If you’re sensitive to the sun, don’t forget your sunblock lotion and hat. Meet at the Stow Lake Boat House.

Great for families. Bring the kids and friends to beach cleanups and restoration projects. See where plastics end up and why it’s important to reduce plastic use and commit to more sustainable agriculture and fishing with less adverse human impact.
Be sure to RSVP, sign a waiver (if applicable) and check with the mentioned organizer to confirm details in advance.
Some snorkel, dive or beach cleanups may require proper certification and being comfortable in or around the water and familiar with water safety. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out. Mahalo 🤙
