pelican harbor coastal cleanup

On the third Saturday of every month, volunteers can assist the Pelican Harbor Marina staff to beautify this coastal park and keep our ocean ecosystem healthy.

This Saturday is also known as Critical Splash, made possible with the support of our community partner, iPaddle Miami.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Removing microplastics and trash along the mangroves at Pelican Harbor Marina
  • Visiting Pelican Island to collect marine debris and non-native coconuts
  • Planting native plant species around the marina and island
  • General landscaping
  • Additional tasks as needed

Qualifications: Youth under 15 must have a parent/guardian present.

Commitment Expected: Please arrive at your scheduled start time and practice social distancing. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own reusable gloves to reduce waste. Masks recommended. Community service hours letters will be emailed, by request, following the event.

Great for families. Bring the kids and friends to beach cleanups and restoration projects. See where plastics end up and why it’s important to reduce plastic use and commit to more sustainable agriculture and fishing with less adverse human impact.

Be sure to RSVP, sign a waiver (if applicable) and check with the mentioned organizer to confirm details in advance.

Some snorkel, dive or beach cleanups may require proper certification and being comfortable in or around the water and familiar with water safety. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out. Mahalo 🤙
