kahuku golf course beach cleanup

Aloha and mahalo for joining us in the restorative stewardship of this cultural site in Waimānalo.

What: Please join us for some coastal restoration in beautiful Waimānalo. This Native Hawaiian cultural site is known as Muliwaiʻōlena and has a rich history in the old days of Waimānalo. Our primary focus will be to remove invasive plants along the coastline allowing us to reintroduce native plants back into the environment. There is also a need to remove trash and marine debris from the coastline as needed and along or in the waterway.

Where: Parking will be in the Waimānalo Camp Ground Parking Lot. From there, if you are facing the ocean, you will walk to your right, through the campground area, south towards Makapuʻu. You should see the Hale Waʻa, or canoe house at the campground as well, it should be on your right as you walk towards the site. Continue until the Iron Wood tree line, and down into the waterway. We will be set up on the far end of the bank. Look for orange shirts.

When: 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM every fourth Monday unless otherwise noted.

Supplies will be provided to do the work necessary. Please ensure that you have appropriate closed toe shoes, as slippers are not recommended. Sun protection is highly recommended and please bring your own hydration. You can receive service hour credits through Kimeona Kane for this event.

Please RSVP to Kimeona Kane through the 808 Cleanups Mobile App or through email at kimeonakane.808cleanups@gmail.com. Phone (808) 398-8989.

Please note that because this is a cultural space, there are cultural protocols done, we encourage all to participate.

Great for families. Bring the kids and friends to beach cleanups and restoration projects. See where plastics end up and why it’s important to reduce plastic use and commit to more sustainable agriculture and fishing with less adverse human impact.

Be sure to RSVP, sign a waiver (if applicable) and check with the mentioned organizer to confirm details in advance.

Some snorkel, dive or beach cleanups may require proper certification and being comfortable in or around the water and familiar with water safety. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out. Mahalo 🤙
