Join North Shore Community Land Trust on the first Saturday of each month in our effort to restore Kalou Fishpond and the surrounding area in Waialeʻe, Oʻahu. Kalou is a traditional Hawaiian loko wai, or freshwater fishpond originating from natural springs in the area. Activities may include removing invasive weeds, packing out rubbish, planting, and performing other tasks suitable for a variety of ages and skill levels. We will begin work at 9 a.m. and wrap up by noon. Water refills and light snacks will be provided.
Our meeting spot is in Waialeʻe, across Kamehameha Hwy. from the former Crawford’s Convalescent Home. Please refer to the links below for the precise location.

Parking is along the makai (ocean) side of the highway, the Pupukea side of the bus stop/ historic building (see image below). Please reserve the area fronting the gate and historic building as a turn-around area for those approaching from the Pupukea side of the highway. Drivers of low-clearance vehicles may wish to turn around at a nearby location (e.g. Waialeʻe Beach Park) because the ground in this area is a bit uneven.
COVID Protocol: If you have experienced fever, chills, body aches, cough, congestion, or any other symptoms of COVID-19, OR if you have tested positive for COVID within the past five (5) days, DO NOT attend this event and please join us another time when you are well. Group size will be limited to comply with current City & State guidelines. Work will be done outside with the opportunity to physically distance. We encourage you to wear a mask when in close proximity to other participants but note that masks are not currently required under updated State mask mandate guidelines.

- A reusable water bottle with a minimum of 2 liters of water
- Reef-safe sun protection
- Bug repellent if needed, or long sleeves and pants
- Closed-toed shoes are strongly recommended in general. Tabis, water shoes, or old shoes are required for wading into the fishpond.
- Your own gloves and weeding tools if you prefer (we will also provide clean gloves and tools).
