EcoAction Day – Citizen Science Cleanup

December 10, 2022 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm EST

Event Series Event Series (See All)
ecoaction day – citizen science cleanup

Help clean up the coastline of Crandon Park and collect data that will be used to inform marine debris prevention and management!

Conservation and restoration scientists often rely on data collected by citizen scientists to achieve a broader picture of their research subject or area- it truly “takes a village” to monitor, and ultimately preserve our beaches!

Join in on this important and fun work as we partner with Miami EcoAdventures and the Miami-Dade County Parks department as we conduct a beach cleanup along Crandon Park Beach, sort through the trash, and then collect important marine debris data!

Meet at the Crandon Visitors and Nature Center. You do not need to pay for parking, just pick up a parking pass from the event organizers upon arrival.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 9 years old and youth under 15 must have a parent or guardian present
  • Please bring a refillable water bottle, close-toed shoes, and protection from the sun

Commitment expected:

  • Please arrive at your scheduled start time and practice social distancing
  • Community service hours can be provided at the end of the event

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ATTEND THIS EVENT, BUT REQUIRE ACCOMMODATIONS DUE TO DISABILITY, NEURODIVERGENCE, AND/OR CHRONIC ILLNESS, PLEASE EMAIL MADDIE@DEBRISFREEOCEANS.ORG SO ACCOMMODATIONS CAN BE MADE

Great for families. Bring the kids and friends to beach cleanups and restoration projects. See where plastics end up and why it’s important to reduce plastic use and commit to more sustainable agriculture and fishing with less adverse human impact.

Be sure to RSVP, sign a waiver (if applicable) and check with the mentioned organizer to confirm details in advance.

Some snorkel, dive or beach cleanups may require proper certification and being comfortable in or around the water and familiar with water safety. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out. Mahalo 🤙
