April 15 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am EDT

Baynanza 2023 clean-up

Baynanza 2023 Clean-up

Miami Waterkeeper is proud to co-host the Morningside Park Baynanza 2023 location with Miami-Dade County, The International SeaKeepers Society, and Ballyhoo Media!

By registering here, you are joining Miami Waterkeeper’s group of volunteers at the Morningside Park site for Baynanza 2023!

Baynanza is a celebration of Biscayne Bay and its significance as one of the most important ecological systems in South Florida. Since Baynanza’s beginning in 1982, volunteers have helped remove over one million pounds of trash from Biscayne Bay!

VOLUNTEER DAY MAIN TASKS:

  • Removal of marine debris from the water and surrounding mangrove habitats

We will be conducting a shore-based marine debris clean-up as well as several vessels transporting volunteers to and from the nearby island to remove marine debris. This volunteer event may require heavy lifting hence teenagers and older groups are recommended. If younger age groups participate, they should be monitored at all times by the designated guardian, parents, etc. *Community Service hours also provided*

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION:

Please be on time, registration begins 30 minutes before the volunteer workday starts. Please arrive at 8:30 am!

Please Bring:

  • Refillable water bottle. Stay hydrated and be prepared to work outside and on the water.
  • Closed-toe shoes are required , long-sleeved shirts and long pants are recommended (clothes that can get wet).
  • A hat, sunblock, and insect repellent (recommended).
  • Gloves and trash grabbers (if you have them-otherwise Miami Waterkeeper will provide all supplies).
  • The clean-up is weather dependent and the event will be canceled with at least 24 hours notice if inclement weather is anticipated.

RSVP below!

Please note that by RSVPing here, you are RSVPing to join Miami Waterkeeper at the Morningside Park location, not with Miami-Dade County for Baynanza 2023 as a whole.

If you are finding difficulties RSVPing to this event or have questions about this event, please email erin@miamiwaterkeeper.org and she will be happy to assist you!

Great for families. Bring the kids and friends to beach cleanups and restoration projects. See where plastics end up and why it’s important to reduce plastic use and commit to more sustainable agriculture and fishing with less adverse human impact.

Be sure to RSVP, sign a waiver (if applicable) and check with the mentioned organizer to confirm details in advance.

Some snorkel, dive or beach cleanups may require proper certification and being comfortable in or around the water and familiar with water safety. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out. Mahalo 🤙
