Coral Reef Experience
Snorkeling has become an important aspect of ecotourism promotion in the Bahamas. There are hundreds of reefs and wrecks throughout the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. West End alone has more than 6 popular spots including the infamous Boat Wreck situated in 8 feet of water and The Sugar Wreck (16th Century Ship) located 28 miles from West End.
The “Coral Reef Experience Tour” features three amazing snorkel reefs – Settlement Point West and Settlement Point South, Bootle Bay Reef that provides additional opportunities to see a variety of fish to observe or photograph. Below is information about boat wreck sites that provide incredible sea life to film from sharks, and stingrays to moray eels.
The Boat Wreck is one of the most requested spots to snorkel as the boat rests in less than 8 feet of water. The wreck is covered with coral and teeming with thousands of fish. Nirvana Reef is just as it is described – total snorkel heaven – every imaginable coral specie can be found from Elkhorn, colorful Fan Corals, Brain Coral, and numerous species of fish and sea life that inhabit this pristine area. The Sugar Wreck is a 16th Century cargo vessel that went down during a raging storm in less than 20 feet of water.
